Digga is Australia's largest manufacturer of machinery attachments and planetary gearboxes for the earthmoving and construction industries. What began as one man selling auger wear parts from a caravan park has grown, over 45 years, into a family-owned group of five brands, seven facilities across three continents, and a dealer network spanning more than 50 countries.

Our history

Stewart Wright founded the business in 1981, initially trading as Sunplas Auger Manufacturing and supplying auger wear parts to local contractors from a caravan park in Tingalpa, Queensland, while running a plastic bag printing business on the side. By 1982, operating from a workshop on Jones Road, Capalaba, Digga had become Australia's first production-scale manufacturer of augers.

The 1980s and 1990s were a period of steady expansion: the first chain-driven auger drives arrived in 1985, the business moved to Loganholme in 1986, and pendulum borers were added to the range in the late 1980s. National growth followed, with expansion into New South Wales in 1990 and Victoria in 1991. In 1992, Digga moved into a purpose-built factory at Stapylton, and the early 1990s also saw the company invest in its first gear-cutting machinery, bringing gearbox manufacturing in-house — a capability that remains central to the business today.

Digga began exporting internationally in 1997, starting with New Zealand, followed by expansion into the UK and North America by the end of the decade. The company's footprint has grown steadily since: a major facility was built at Yatala, Queensland in 2005–2006, which remains group headquarters today, and a manufacturing base was established in Dyersville, Iowa, opening in 2013 to serve the North American market.

A fire at the Yatala facility in March 2016 halted production, but the team had operations running again within days using a temporary factory and extra shifts at supplier sites — and by early 2017, a new, state-of-the-art facility was completed on the same site. Digga's in-house service and repair division, MASR, was formed the same year.

The Digga Group has grown through strategic acquisitions: Kanga Loaders joined the group in 2009, Universal Augers (formerly Pengo) in 2010, McCormack Industries in September 2024, and Yeomans Plow Co in March 2026 — each bringing complementary products and expertise into the family. Most recently, a new company-owned facility opened in Hallam, Victoria in July 2025.

Digga remains proudly family-owned. Founder Stewart Wright led the business until 2004, when Suzie Wright became CEO. Following her passing in 2018 after an illness, Alan Wade led the business before Zoe Conde — Suzie's daughter, with more than a decade of involvement in the company — was appointed CEO in January 2024.

Manufacturing Capabilities

Around 80% of Digga's components are engineered and manufactured in-house, giving the business direct control over quality at every stage. Yatala operations run on CNC machining, robotic welding, laser cutting, in-house gear-cutting equipment and automated powder coating. Digga has held ISO 9001:2015 certification through BSI since 2018.

  • Australia — Yatala QLD (headquarters and main manufacturing), Sydney, Melbourne and a facility in the ACT

  • United States — Dyersville, Iowa

  • United Kingdom — Newbury, Berkshire

More than 350 people work across the group worldwide.

Market Reach

Digga products are exported to more than 50 countries through a global network of around 950 dealers and distributors.

Sustainability

At Yatala, Digga runs a 1,334-panel rooftop solar system generating up to 450kW — supplying roughly a third of the site's energy needs. The forklift fleet has been converted to battery-electric (aside from a small number of large-lift gas units), and the site runs closed-loop oil recycling, water-based coatings, and digital operator manuals accessed by QR code to cut down on paper.

Community

Digga's flagship community program is Cancer Socks, launched in November 2023, which has sold more than 9,000 pairs and raised over $338,000 for ovarian cancer research through the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation. The company also supports causes close to its staff, including the Children's Hospital Foundation, MND research and Dementia Australia.

Across its 45-year history, Digga has been recognised with awards including the 2023 Plantworx Construction Show Innovation Award, the 2019 Gold Coast Business Excellence Award in Manufacturing, the 2018 Gold Coast Manufacturer of the Year and Dermot McManus Export Award, the 2015 Premier's Export Award, the 2014 Queensland Manufacturing Exporter of the Year, and multiple Queensland Export and Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards throughout the 2010s.
